What Is A Lassi?

Traditional Lassi

Crazy Gin is the world’s first clear lassi gin but from time to time we get people asking us what a lassi is. A lassi is a drink that traces its roots to Punjab in Northern India.  Although the exact origins of the drink are unknown, lassi is known as the first yoghurt smoothie in the world. Lassi is made by mixing water and yoghurt and can come in both sweet and savoury versions. Lassi’s are intended to be very refreshing drinks, best enjoyed on a hot day. Our grandparents, and even their parents would all consider the lassi their drink of choice during the summer heat, but we prefer an ice cold G&T.

While the lassi is probably the most popular yoghurt drink from India, there are other variants that exist such as Chaas and Bhang lassi. The lassi is a significant part of Punjabi culture and holds a special place for us. Using lassi in Crazy Gin allows us to share an important piece of our culture with wonderful people like you.
