What Is Gin
‘Not another gin!’ has been the reaction of some when they see us, but fear not - you won’t have seen these flavour combinations before. Despite its growing and continuing popularity, there’s still some confusion around what a gin is. Put simply, gin is a spirit that has the predominant flavour of juniper berries. For us, gin is exciting because other flavours can and should be added to juniper, to create delectable combinations and adventurous new gins.
The gindustry has been booming for almost 10 years now, since it’s growth in 2009. There is said to be 315 spirit distilleries across the UK, more than doubling the amount five years ago. As the popularity of gin continues to rise, we feel that ginnovators should be celebrated for their creativity in flavours and methods. This differentiation is keeping things interesting, and let’s face it, customers are always seeking new flavours. When we talk of ginnovators - we mean those going against the grain and distilling using methods other than the traditional copper still, and those experimenting with ingredients. People like us, who are prioritising experimentation over tradition. Believe it or not, gin can even be distilled using a microwave!
Here at Crazy Gin, we vacuum distill using a rotary evaporator to ensure that our flavours retain their intensity throughout the distillation process. Read more about this here: Link. Through this we have been able to distill yoghurt and truly capture the essence of lassi, the Indian drink that inspired us to create our gin. Our additional ingredients (black cumin, black pepper, turmeric, coriander, pomegranate and ghee) just so happen to be brought together in harmony by those crucial juniper berries, making Crazy Gin the flavourful drink you love.
